In short
You don't need an account to use nxtransit. Without one, your settings and saved items stay in this browser. With one, we keep your email address and what you save, so it's there on your other devices. We don't sell data, show ads or use tracking cookies.
On your device
Settings, saved stops, lines, places and commutes, and recent searches are kept in your browser's storage. You can remove them any time with Reset local data in Settings.
If you create an account
- Your email address.
- Your password, stored only as a one-way hash. We can't read it.
- The stops, lines and commutes you save, including the start and end points of each commute.
Account deletion isn't available in the app yet. Signing out removes your account's items from that browser.
Cookies
We set two cookies, and only when you sign in: one holds your sign-in session and can't be read by page scripts, and one simply notes that you're signed in. Both last 30 days or until you sign out.
Location
If you allow it, your browser's location is sent to nxtransit to find stops near you. It isn't saved to your account. Like most web services, our servers keep request logs, which can include the coordinates in a request and your IP address, to keep the service running and to limit abuse.
Other services
- Map images come from OpenFreeMap. Your browser asks them for the part of the map you are looking at.
- Address search uses OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service, which receives the text you type into a search for an address.
Transit agencies don't receive any information about you from nxtransit.
